What is a Web-Enabled application?
A Web-Enabled, or Internet application is an application that runs on the internet, but that allows traditional
client/server applications to interact with it. The client-server application communicates with
the web-application to exchange data. However, the user-interface is a typical client/server GUI
experience.
What makes them so powerful?
Web-Enabled applications are powerful because it combines the power and security of a desktop user interface
with the ability to gather information, and the distributed architecture, of a web-application. This allows
businesses to have clients enter orders on-line, and then download those orders into their inventory
control software for processing. In this manner, the inventory system can be controlled completely off-line
to maintain its security. Report, label printing, and other features more suitable to to a client/server
application can also be maintained in the inventory control software. However, the customer can enjoy the
rich, distributed experience of a web-based application.
